On April 26, formerly beloved comedian and actor Bill Cosby was found guilty on three counts of aggravated sexual assault. Justice was served by the women who were victims of Cosby. These attacks have dated as back as far as the 1960s, with Kristina Ruehil being one of the first victims. According to phillymag.com, Ruehil said that she showed up at a “house party”, but was the only guest invited. She then proceeded to drink some bourbon that gave her hazy vision, and then not having much memory about what happened after. When Ruehil woke up, she was in a bed as Bill Cosby was attempting to perform sexual acts on her. She pulled herself together and immediately exited the house. Keeping silent for 40 years, Ruehil finally brought her sexual assault to public eye in 2005. Also, comedian Hannibal Buress brought the assault to even more media attention in October of 2014. During a stand-up act, Buress criticized Bill Cosby’s public moralizing with a comment about his rape allegations. Taking it as a joke at first, the audience was told to Google “Bill Cosby rape” when they got home. Philadelphia Magazine posted this part of the routine, which was met by publications questioning how Cosby managed to maintain a low profile with cases stretching over four decades, to which Cosby would “not respond” or “not acknowledge.” More than 60 cases have been filed against Cosby, and during his retrial on April 26, he was convicted. He faces up to ten years in prison and must pay a $25,000 fine per victim. After decades upon decades of innocent women being victimized by Cosby, he’s finally going to prison for good. There’s a good chance he’s not going to make it through his whole prison sentence due to his old age. Thomas Mesereau, Cosby’s attorney, plans to appeal as well. It’s a shame that one of America’s beloved comedians is a sexual predator. Hopefully, this will teach other A-list celebrities that they can’t use their huge fame to their advantage for everything.
