Coming into the new year, many movies at the box office have been hits, one being James Cameron’s Avatar The Way of Water. The movie is quickly climbing up the top 10, changing each day as more and more people watch. The sequel follows the first movie, Avatar released in 2009 that tells the story of Jake Sully, an ex-marine that travels in place of his brother to Pandora. The movie aims at sending the message that humans are slowly destroying the earth and only are in it for the money. The villain of the story is a company trying to mine a material that can sell for lots of money back on earth. The first movie was a hit bringing in 2.9 billion dollars, as well as being one of the top 10 highest-grossing movies of all time. Many consider James Cameron to be one of the top movie directors and a director of other movies like Titanic. After years and many delays it was announced that Avatar 2 would come to theaters in late 2022. Fans were excited as they had waited years for the sequel. The first part of the movie unedited was 9 hours but was cut down to 3. On December 16, 2022 the movie was released and fans instantly loved it, coming back to watch it again and again. The movie opens with viewers learning that Jake now is clan leader and has a family, one of his kids with Grace. The rest of the movie follows as human forces push them out of the forest and into the ocean territory of Pandora with the Metkayina people. They fight human forces while also introducing us to others enemies, which will be in future movies. While introducing characters they also introduce creatures that are specific to the area of land they explore. Another theme explored is family, as they do their best to protect themselves. The movie ends on a cliffhanger that leaves us wanting more and shows the villains that will be featured in the next few movies. The movie does a fantastic job of giving us a good plot, while still having the underlying theme of humans destroying the Earth. Like other movies the acting and new characters he has created are amazing and also allow us to sympathize with some of them. Cameron previously said that if the second movie did not do well, then he would wrap things up in its third movie, but after even the first weekend it seems clear that we will get the full five movies. The next movies all come out in the next few years with the last one coming out in 2028. The third and fourth ones have already been filmed, and the fifth movie is getting filmed in the next few years. Overall, the reviews for the movie have been positive and many are excited about the next movies. Cameron has done an amazing job once again and many can expect the next three movies to be just as good.
