This week, “welcome back to the ballroom,” because Dancing with the Stars just aired the first episode of the new, season 33! A little background on the show if you don’t know how it works, the season starts with 13 ‘stars’, whether they’re from TV shows, sports teams, or are just famous. Each “star is paired with a “pro” and competes for votes to stay on. If a “couple” (a star and their pro) doesn’t get enough votes, they’re eliminated and don’t get to dance for the rest of the season. Typically, one or two couples per episode are kicked off, except in the first episode where everyone stays. Every episode has some sort of theme that influences the genre of the songs and the style of each of the dances. This week, as the theme, each star is dancing to their “anthem” song.
Starting the season off is Joey Graziadei performing with his partner, Jenna Johnson. He starred on the last season of the “Bachelor,” and danced the cha-cha to “Dancing in the Country.” Next up, supermodel and actress Brooks Nader takes the stage dancing the tango with Gleb Savchenko to Britney Spears’ “Piece of Me.” Third to perform is Ilona Maher, Olympic Gold Medalist in Rugby and advocate for body positivity and self-love for young women around the world. She danced the cha-cha to “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” with Alan Bersten. Following up, “Family Matters” star, Reginald Veljohnson and Emma Slater dance to “Motownphilly” with a salsa. Fifth to step on the stage is Danny Amendola, a football player, who chose to dance to the tango to “A Bar Song (Tipsy) [Remix].” 90210 actress, Tori Spelling is up next dancing to “Trustfall” with the Foxtrot. Next up, “Bachelorette” star, Jenn Tran chose “Flowers” for her cha-cha with Sasha Farber. Number eight on stage is Chandler Kinney, an actress from the series, “Pretty Little Liars” who danced to “Hot to Go” by Chappell Roan as a tango with Brandon Armstrong. Watch out for the tall and short jokes because the 6’11,” basketball player, Dwight Howard does the salsa with 5’3,” Daniella Karagach to “This Is How We Do It.” Tenth, Eric Roberts, the Academy Award nominee, dances to “Old Time Rock and Roll” with Britt Stewart to a cha-cha. Following up, dancing the cha-cha to “I’m Every Woman” with Val Chmerkovskiy is American TV personality and attorney, Phaedra Parks. Second to last is Olympic Gymnast who specialized in pommel horse, Stephen Nedoroscik with Rylee Arnold dancing the jive to “Don’t Stop Me Now.” Last but most interesting is bedazzled-ankle-monitor-wearing Anna Delvey who danced the cha-cha to “Espresso” with the new pro, Ezra Sosa. She is known for the Netflix Drama series that was made about her life called “Inventing Anna,” and was found guilty of eight theft-related charges, served four years in jail and is currently on house arrest.
After watching all of these stars and pros perform their first dances of the season, fans are excited to see who ends up as the winner of season 33 of Dancing with the Stars.
