The Grammys are a music event that is usually recognized as the most prestigious awards in the music industry. It is established by the Recording Academy of the United States and its purpose is to award outstanding achievement in music.
After weeks of anticipation, the Grammy nominations for the 67th Grammys, on February 2nd, 2025, have been announced. This year’s nominations include many truly pivotal moments in many artists’ careers. For example, pop artists Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan both have received their first ever Grammy nominations, and at the same time earning nominations in all of the Big 4 categories: Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year. Clairo earned her first nomination in the Best Alternative Music Album category for her third album, Charm. Morgan Wallen also earned his first nominations in Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Country Song. Some other artists that got their first nominations are Doechii, Benson Boone, and Raye. Beyoncé has now made history by being the most Grammy nominated artist, with a staggering 99 nominations- she is also the most nominated artist of this year’s Grammys.
After breaking the record for the artist with the most Album of the Year wins, Taylor Swift has once again been nominated for Album of the Year, now for the 7th time. She is a nominee of this category alongside André 3000, Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, Jacob Collier, and Sabrina Carpenter. This nomination is also the first Grammy nomination of Charli XCX, which is a huge accomplishment considering how long she has been working in the music industry and the amount of influence she’s had on pop music.
Not all music fans are happy with this outcome, however. There has been a lot of backlash from fans of some artists for being snubbed in certain categories- for example, Ariana Grande did not get a nomination for Best Music Video for we can’t be friends (wait for your love), and did not get an Album of the Year nomination for eternal sunshine. Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour movie was also not nominated for Best Music Film, despite this record-breaking tour and the highest grossing concert film in history. Lizzy McAlpine also did not receive any Grammy nominations in any of the categories she submitted in.
Now that the nominees are announced, all we have left to do is wait in suspense for the actual Grammys event in 3 months!
