“I have spent my life folded in the pages of books” (Tahereh Mafi, author of Shatter Me)
Why should you read?
There are many answers to why you should read, but books are the ultimate passport to new worlds—whether they’re filled with magic, history, or heart-pounding mysteries. Let’s explore all kinds of original genres and see what new endless possibilities lie in the pages. From expanding your imagination to building empathy and understanding, books are key to unlocking countless adventures.
The Magic of Fiction
Ever wanted to take an adventure into a Fae world (Cruel Prince), possibly an exhilarating dystopian (Hunger Games/Maze Runner/Shatter Me), or a fascinating mystery (One of Us is Lying/A Good Girls Guide to Murder/Anything by Agatha Cristie)? Fiction allows us to escape reality and explore new lives, perspectives, and ideas. I love the fiction genre, especially anything with Fae or dragons, whenever I go to a bookstore it is dangerous because I’ll stay there for HOURS
The Historical Fiction
Historical fiction is one of the most captivating genres, blending the rich tapestry of real events with the imaginative storytelling of fiction. This week, we’re diving into why historical fiction continues to be such a popular genre, and highlighting some of the must-reads that transport readers to different times and places in history. I love reading fantasy and all, but nothing beats a nice historical fiction book while it’s pouring rain outside with a nice blanket. Historical fiction isn’t just about reading stories set in the past; it’s about bringing history to life in ways that make it feel personal and relatable. Whether it’s the drama of World War II, the intrigue of ancient civilizations, or the trials of everyday life in the past, historical fiction allows us to experience history through the eyes of unforgettable characters. It’s a way to learn about the world’s past while getting lost in compelling plots, emotional journeys, and rich details if you are interested in Historical fiction, I would wholeheartedly recommend The Nightingale (especially if you are taking AP Euro)
The Hopeless Romantic
Instead of a dystopian or fantasy would you prefer a fluffy romance, (Better than the Movies/Red, White, and Royal Blue/Check and Mate)? Sometimes, we all need a little sweetness, a dash of humor, and a romance that makes our hearts flutter without too much drama (especially around finals week). Fluffy romance novels are the perfect remedy when you need something light-hearted, fun, and full of feel-good moments. Let’s dive into why fluffy romance is such a hit and recommend a few books that’ll bring those happy, cozy vibes.
Fluffy romance is all about the joy of falling in love—without the heavy angst or heartbreak that can come with more serious romances. Think cute meet-cutes, charming characters, and happily-ever-afters. These books are an escape into a world where love is a little bit magical and a lot more lighthearted. The stakes aren’t too high, but the emotions are up, and it’s just the kind of read that’ll leave you smiling long after you close the book. I said this about countless romances, but I’ll just use Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. This book gives you everything you want in a fluffy romance—political intrigue, a charming enemies-to-lovers plot, and a ton of witty dialogue. It follows Alex Claremont-Diaz, the First Son of the United States, and Prince Henry of Wales as they navigate their unexpectedly blossoming relationship amidst the spotlight of their royal and political duties. It’s charming, funny, and swoon-worthy.
Romance also has a way of boosting our mood. When you’re reading about characters navigating misunderstandings, embarrassing moments, and perfect dates, you can’t help but smile along with them. And at the end of it all, you’re guaranteed a happy ending, which is often the perfect kind of closure after a long day.
Books open doors to places, times, and ideas that we might never experience otherwise. Whether you’re looking to unwind, learn something new, or simply enjoy a good story, reading is always a rewarding journey. You’ll find a genre you’ll love! So, pick up a book this week—your next adventure is waiting!
