What to Do When Stopped by the Police….

Being stopped by the police is a scary thing, but it is good to stay calm when it happens. Here are some tips to keep you from getting into more trouble and minimize the time you spend pulled to the side of the road.

  1. Senior AJ Perry, who has been pulled over, advises drivers to never carry anything that may appear incriminating in the eyes of the law. Police officers will sometimes pat you down to see if you have anything on you. If this is the case, make sure not to resist because if you do not cooperate, there is a chance of causing a huge argument, which can get you into more trouble. Remember that your vehicle cannot be searched without a warrant, unless there is probable clause.

  2. It is good to think carefully about your body language, emotions, and words. What you say to an officer is important and can be used against you.
  3. Never run from the police. If you are stopped by the police in a car, pull over and follow the directions that the officer gives you. Show them your driver’s license, registration, and insurance.

With these four tips in mind, being stopped by the police should go over smoothly and reduce stress. Make sure to follow the rules of the road and drive safely, Comanches!
