Super Smash Bros (Waiting for Source)
December 11, 2018
When Nintendo released the first Smash Bros in 1999, they did not expect it to be the biggest and most beloved series in gaming history, with each installment being better than the last one. However, a theory has surfaced that states that their newest game, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, may be the last in the series.
The main point that backs up the whole theory is the amount of fan service Nintendo has added. If you’re not aware what fan service is, it’s basically when a TV/Video Game series adds something the fans want, in order to please the fan base. An example of the fan service Nintendo has added is story mode, which fans have begged for, for several years; the last time Nintendo added a story mode was in Super Smash Bros Brawl, which was released back in 2008.
Another piece of evidence that backs up the claim is the size and number of fighters on the roster. There are over 70 fighters, most of them being fan favorites, including Snake and Ridley. Additionally, with the recent reveal of Joker, who is from the persona Playstation game, fans speculate that Mircosoft may put an Xbox character into Smash Bros. The most likely and most desired character is Banjo Kazooie–an addition fans have been asking for since the first game in 1999.
Of course, this is a merely a theory; it is not likely Nintendo will end one of its biggest series this early, as it’s only the fifth installment. Maybe this has all been done to celebrate their success so far.
