This season of football has definitely proved one thing: Cody Parkey of the Chicago Bears could be in trouble. For those who do not know the football player, here’s the only thing you will need to know: according to statistics, he was this season’s WORST kicker.

This season, Parkey kicked 30 field goals and missed 7, giving him an average of 76.7 percent. Any football fan would recognize this as atrocious. The Bears were having a magical season going 12-4, which was an amazing turn around from last season, where they went 5-11. They made it to the playoffs, where they drove down the field against the Philadelphia Eagles with 15 seconds left in the game. The Bears were down a single point, and all it would take to win was one field goal. Out came Cody Parkey to kick a simple 43-yard field goal. He was able to make the first kick, but a timeout was called. The pressure really rose as the crowd roared on at the possibility of Parkey prolonging the Bears’ great season with one kick.

The ball was snapped, and Parkey ran up to kick it. It flew to the left before hitting both the top and bottom posts.

People claim it was tipped, and others think he just missed it. Either way, the field goal missed and the Bear’s season was now over. The kicker has spoken out about his failure to score and takes full responsibility. In an interview, Parkey said, “I feel terrible, I let the team down, that’s on me, I have to own it” (Fox News). 

Only time will tell, but Parkey’s career with the Bears could be over.
