The Grammys Recap
The 2021 Grammy’s were hosted on Sunday, March 14, outside STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. This year’s ceremony was different due to Covid-19. They were hosted outside and everyone had to wear masks, unless they were on stage receiving their awards. There was a limited amount of people and they all sat at socially-distanced tables.
The premiere show was heavily anticipated by many BTS fans. BTS’s “Dynamite,” was nominated for Best Pop Duo Performance. They made history by being the first Korean group to be nominated for a Grammy. Dynamite was a hit everywhere and is still continuing to dominate the Hot 100 and other music charts. It also had the most amount of streams in its category. Unfortunately, they did not win the award. Regardless of that, history was still made.
Another artist made history that night. Beyonce became the most grammy winning female of all time. Her performance of “Black Parade,” won best R&B performance, which tied her with Quincy Jones for most Grammys won. That night, she also won best rap performance with Megan Thee Stallion for their remix of “Savage.” Her guest appearance was a surprise and shocked many viewers.
The night was filled with great performances by many artists. Dua Lipa and DaBaby performed “Levitating”, and Dua did a costume change, taking off the oversized coat she was wearing, to transition into “Don’t Start Now”. Lil Baby delivered a very moving, powerful performance based on police brutality and protests. The performance started off with two white police officers arresting a black man for sleeping in his car. One of the protesters in the back made a call to action to Joe Biden that they need justice and equity. Then, Lil Baby rapped lyrics into a white police officer’s face. This performance’s message was very powerful and left many speechless.
To end off the Grammys, BTS lit it up like dynamite. This performance was very fun to watch, from the set changes to the rooftop scenes. Since they were unable to attend the Grammys in person, they recreated the set in Seoul, South Korea. They even had the famous Grammys wall and red carpet. The performance was mobilized as the members were taking viewers around the set. A scene that caught many’s eyes was the rooftop scene. They did many complicated dance moves while being up in the sky. BTS brought on one of the best performances in this year’s Grammy ceremony.
