*Warning for possible spoilers

The new release of the Spider-Man: No Way Home teaser has Marvel fans thrilled. Throughout the teaser we’re able to see lots of easter eggs and indicators towards which villains and characters might appear in the film, as well as some theories speculating  whether or not the previous Spider-Man actors will make a debut. Not much can be confirmed from the teaser, but it’s definitely a lot of fun to theorize about the teasers.

What Is the Teaser About?

The teaser starts from where the last movie, Spider-Man: Far From Home, ends.  The movie follows Peter Parker as he tries to balance his life as a normal highschool and a superhero while on a class field trip in Venice, Italy. Towards the end of the film he has to fight Mysterio, a villain who used drones and holograms to create the illusion that he was defeating other villains that were threats to the city.  In their fight, Spider-Man turns Mysterio’s firing drones around at him which shoot Mysterio. He falls to the ground and becomes unresponsive. Thinking Mysterio died immediately, Spider-Man leaves to return to his class field trip as Peter Parker. When Spider-Man  leaves, it gives Mysterio an opportunity to take a video that gets sent to the Daily Bugle, a popular news company in New York, where it’s then played publicly. In the video, Mysterio frames Spider-Man for murder and reveals Spider-Man’s identity as Peter Parker and then cuts to the movie credits.

The teaser picks up from the end of Mysterio’s video and follows Peter as he faces his new struggles. With his identity outed, and being falsely accused of murder, Peter’s life starts to fall apart. Between him and his loved ones being interrogated and the overwhelming attention from his school peers and civilians in New York, his job as Spider-Man becomes difficult. Due to his new struggles, he goes to a sorcerer he’s acquainted with, Doctor Strange,  in hopes that he’ll help him by casting a spell that makes everyone forget his alter ego’s identity. After Strange is warned by a fellow sorcerer that it’s a risky spell and he shouldn’t attempt it, he proceeds to do it anyway. When something goes wrong during the spell, he accidentally opens the multiverse. Their encounter with the multiverse leads to a greater problem that Spider-Man has to solve.

The Sinister Six

The most interesting thing about the teaser is seeing The Sinister Six. With the multiverse being opened, this gives villains from other Spider-Man universes an opportunity to cross into the MCU’s Peter Parker’s. Fans are enjoying guessing which members of the Sinister Six may appear in the film based on the hints in the teaser.

Doctor Octopus

The most obvious and confirmed tease by Marvel is Doctor Octopus. Towards the end of the teaser, Doc Ock’s mechanical tentacles are seen crashing into the ground, where he then comes into frame and grins while saying, “Hello, Peter”. This is easily the most exciting part of the teaser for older fans of Webhead.

Green Goblin

The second most noticeable hint is for Green Goblin. Right before Doc Ock’s mechanical tentacles come into frame, one of Green Goblin’s pumpkin bombs is dropped into frame and explodes with his laugh in the background. Green Goblin himself didn’t make an appearance, but it’s likely he’ll be in it.

Electro

This next hint is confirmed by Marvel and appears twice. There are two short clips where bolts of electricity, or lightning, can be seen. The only difference from previous movies is that Electro had a color change, and the previously blue electric bolts are now replaced by yellow ones.

Sandman

The Sandman tease is a little more difficult to catch, since there’s a slight distraction from Electro’s second tease in the same clip, but next to the flashing bolt a sand figure that appears to be rising up from the ground can be seen.

Lizard

The last one is hard to catch since the clip for it is so short, but if you pay close attention you can spot a scene where it looks like a large creature grabs Peter before the teaser jumps to the next scene. Many people have pointed out and made the connection that the unidentified silhouette has the same figure as Lizard.

Vulture?

A popular theory for who the last member might be is Vulture, but there has been no hint or teaser for it. The theory is so popular because he appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and at the end of the film he was sent to prison after being defeated by Spider-Man. Although he’s a part of the MCU already, it would be  interesting to see how he would interact with the villains who aren’t.

Previous Actors or Characters Making An Appearance?

With the return of the older cinematic villains, people are wondering if the previous Spider-Man actors will appear in the movie.

The Spider-Men

Recently there were two “leaked” photos. One of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield stood by each other and suited up on set, and another of just Andrew Garfield on set. The only word about it from Tobey Maguire is that earlier this year he met a fan in a park who asked him if he would be in it, and all Maguire did was wink and smile. However, there’s been a little more talk about it from Andrew Garfield

On September 13th, Andrew Garfield appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and discussed the rumors and photos. He initially says he doesn’t know about the photo and has never seen it but a minute later goes on to say, “I heard about it. And I did see it. And It’s a Photoshop”. He’s also denied the rumor in the past by saying, “But it’s important for me to say on record that this is not something I’m aware I’m involved in,” along with adding that people who are expecting him will either be really disappointed or really excited.

Since actors usually are not supposed to talk about whether or not they’ll be in a movie, people suspect that Garfield could just be lying but in the MCU alone there have been a few actors who have either lied about the role they were going to play or denied them being in the movie at all. An Example for this is Brie Larson, who plays Captain Marvel, who was asked about the role in an interview and replied with “Who’s Captain Marvel?” Another example is Paul Rudd, who plays Ant-Man said “It’s all rumor, man” when asked about it. Yes, Garfield could just be telling the truth but based on the villain casting for No Way Home plenty of people are in denial of him being honest.

Villain Actors

Along with the return of the older villains is also the return of some of their previous actors. The so far confirmed actor returns are Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus and Jamie Foxx as Electro.

For Green Goblin, since his iconic laugh is heard when the pumpkin bomb is dropped into the scene, everyone is waiting for Willem Dafoe who is the previous actor to announce his reappearance.

There’s no news about the other’s but there’s a lot of hope from fans for the idea of them coming back too.
