Canyon Boys Varsity Basketball

Our Canyon boys basketball team is for sure one of our many highlights of Canyon winter sports this year. With the boys’ determination to win the league and continue on to CIF,  they made it to the semifinal round of CIF games, winning against teams like the Cross Roads 73 to 64 and J Serra 58 to 56. Brandon Benjamin, being one of our top players and only being a sophomore has surpassed 30 points two games in a row (against both J Serra and Etiwanda). He also managed to give the team a two point lead with a buzzer beating rebounded layup at the last second of their game against J Serra. Sadly, in their most recent game against Etiwanda for CIF semifinals, the Comanches lost 67-57. Even though they will not be moving on to play in the finals, they will be continuing their hard work and will be playing for state in the weeks to come. This hard loss against Etiwanda will not stop them from moving forward with high hopes of winning state. With their hard work and dedication, Canyon’s boys basketball team is still one of the best teams in the county. Coach Nate Harrison is definitely proud of all the boys, how far they have come, and how much they have achieved – this year alone. With most of the lineup consisting of seniors, the team has a lot of knowledge and experience on and off the court. They know how to build a good quality team and stay strong physically and mentally throughout the game. As hard as it is to not see them win CIF, we have the chance to see even better results in the next few weeks during the State Championship. It is an honor for our boys team to be recognized and to move forward in state. With this year’s team they definitely have a lot of potential to become something big for our school and for themselves in the future. These boys have set the tone for future generations of Canyon’s boys basketball players and for the future of the team. Let’s all come out and rally support for the boys and the basketball program as they move on to state.
