The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was released in 2017 by Taylor Jenkins Reid. According to Vogue, Reid explained why and what her inspiration was for this book. “Evelyn Hugo is based on Elizabeth Taylor, who married seven different men. Ava Gardener, who revealed secrets about her past and story to a journalist, and Rita Hayworth, who had a Spanish background but was convinced to change her name and appearance.” (erasing her culture and ethnicity) Rita Hayworth believed that she would become more successful in Hollywood and make a big name for herself.
A short summary of the book: Evelyn Hugo was a famous actor in the 50s. She was a part of many different films and married seven times and had a daughter, Connor Cameron with her fifth husband, Harry Cameron. She married Ernie Diaz a man who took her to Hollywood, Don Adler, a famous actor, Mick Riva, a pop star, Rex North, another actor, Harry Cameron, Evelyn’s producer and best friend, Max Girard, a French director, and Robert Jamison, a good father for her daughter. After she has lived her life and is now older, she wants to share her story and what she experienced. But instead of choosing a more famous journalist or a bigger journaling company, she chose a small writer, Monique Grant. People were confused on why she picked her. Monique was also confused. But she decided to take on the opportunity and she learned about Evelyn Hugo and her story.
Some exciting news is that Netflix has announced that they’re releasing a film about this book. They reported this news on June 29, 2023 and they plan to have the movie released hopefully soon on Netflix.
