Now that you have just turned 18, you’re probably thinking about your voting privileges. Whether you are registering online or in person, there are specific qualifications and documents you must have. To register you must be a US citizen and a resident of California. You must obtain a paper voter registration application, which you can pick up at your county elections office, library, department of motor vehicle offices, or the US post office. It is important that your voter registration application is filled out completely and postmarked or hand delivered to your county elections office at least 15 days before election day. To pre-register to vote, you must be 16 or 17 years old and meet all of the eligibility requirements. You will automatically be registered to vote on your 18th birthday. After pre-registering to vote, you will receive a postcard confirmation notifying you that your application was received and processed. Through voting, you have the opportunity to influence the government, so remember to let your voice heard this year during the primaries!
