Homecoming at the Drive-In

On Sept. 22, in Canyon’s quad, students were able to get their Hand Jive on at the 50’s inspired homecoming dance. As they checked in, those in attendance were met by a red carpet that led them to the fun. As one made their way to the stage, a DJ, who was surrounded by a juke box and statues of Elvis and Marilyn Monroe, had those on the dance floor grooving. Although the playlist was mostly composed of modern music, every hour the DJ slowed it down with popular 50’s love songs, such as “Put Your Head On My Shoulder” by Paul Anka. Once they were drained from dancing, attendees were provided with an array of alternatives in which they could entertain themselves. There were platters of brownies, cookies, and popcorn, which one could then wash down with water or pink lemonade. Many velvety-cushioned seats were also available, where students could mingle as they rested their feet. Then, students had the option to watch Grease, which was being projected onto a screen, play games such as Billiard’s or air hockey, or shimmy on down to the photo booths, where they could take silly pictures with their date.  Many believe the night to have been a success, as there was never a dull moment because of all of the activities available to them.
As the night came to an end, many seniors felt bittersweet, as this would be their final homecoming. However, the memories captured in the photographs and the silly dance moves all across the dance floor would surely make it a night to remember.
