Five Excuses for Breaking a Date

It is rare to find someone you genuinely click with, or sometimes it is difficult to find the energy to go out. Whatever the reason is, here are 5 excuses for breaking a date, according to students from Canyon High School.

Excuse #1 is to just be straightforward! Let them know exactly how you feel so you don’t lead them on. Being straightforward always benefits you and the person on the receiving end. Be short, sweet and straight to the point.

Excuse #2 is to reschedule over text or phone. This way, you look eager to go on the date, but something came up and you had no choice but to cancel. You can even combine excuse number one and two: be straightforward about not being in the mood to go on that date and reschedule for another day. Remember manipulation tactics are in no way okay, so definitely be straightforward!

Excuse #3  “Avoid responding to the invite until after,” Junior Marissa Romero said. Doing so makes you seem really busy and unavailable.

Excuse #4 is a classic: the family emergency. Family always comes first ,especially if it is an emergency! about date should have no problem understanding.

Excuse #5 is friend emergency. This one works wonders as well. Tell them a friend just went through a hard breakup or they just really need your company for the night. If you can, go hangout with that friend, that way it becomes real if your date does ask about it later on.
