41 People Have Died from the Coronavirus, Over 1,200 People Infected

  The city of Wuhan in China, the city in which the virus recently surfaced, is on lockdown, with the virus already having infected more than 1,200 people. 41 have died.

  School in Hong Kong is being closed for two weeks, as their government has raised their response level to the outbreak to “emergency”. In Wuhan, there is a plan to build a second, makeshift hospital with around 1,000 beds

The outbreak began in the city in central China and has spread nationwide and overseas, fueled by millions of people traveling during the country’s biggest holiday.” “Biggest holiday” being the Lunar New Year holiday, which celebrates the new year for China and other Asian countries, the event occurring in a span of 15 days.

  Although all 41 deaths and most infections have been in China, there’ve been infections reported in other countries, as well, including Japan, Australia, France, Malaysia, and there’ve even been two cases in the U.S.

  The lockdown has also expanded to 16 neighboring cities, the combined population in lockdown being over 50 million. The city of Wuhan then banned cars, as well, in downtown areas, only permitting authorized vehicles. Many hospitals in some China cities are at maximum capacity and have to turn people away.

  “The Chinese military dispatched 450 medical staff,” said ABC 7 article Coronavirus: Viral outbreak kills 41, sickens 1,200 as fresh cases pop up in countries across the world by Ken Moritsugu. “who arrived in Wuhan late Friday night to help treat the many patients hospitalized with viral pneumonia… medical supplies are being rushed to the city, including 14,000 protective suits and 110,000 pairs of gloves… as well as masks and goggles.”

  The C.D.C. says that they expect there to be more diagnoses in the U.S.
