Lately, everyone has been talking about how Taylor Swift is re-recording her first six albums as well as releasing new music. It may seem simple, but there’s a lot that goes into it.

13-year-old Swift created a CD of her first album that she dreamed of putting out. Starting in 8th grade, her family made the huge move from West Reading, Pennsylvania to Nashville Tennessee, and spent her weeks going door to door in Nashville to recording studios trying to get signed. Swift signed with Big Machine Records in 2005. She recorded and produced her first six albums with Big Machine Records. These albums include her debut album: Taylor Swift, as well as Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and finally Reputation

Taylor and Big Machine Records constantly partook in many conversations about Scooter Braun and Schoolboy Records. On June 30th, 2019, through social media, Swift discovered Scooter Braun bought Taylor Swift’s Master Recordings for 300 Million Dollars. Swift still owned the music and lyrics, just not the master recordings for her first six albums. She was devastated and decided to start producing her own music, completely owning Lover, Folklore & Evermore

In early 2021, she announced that she was going to re-record her first six albums, starting with Fearless in 2021. She used many different social media platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and more to advertise these releases. As one of her main marketing strategies, she decided to release songs she wrote for the album but didn’t make the final cut. After all of these songs, the title includes “From the Vault”. This tells us that Swift hasn’t put the song out before and it has been waiting ‘in the vault’ since the original album was released.

The re-recorded album Fearless (Taylor’s Version) showed up on streaming platforms on April 9th, 2021. Later that year, Swift announced Red (Taylor’s Version) to be released on November 12, 2021. She decided to take a break from the re-records and stayed silent on albums until the VMA’s on August 28th, 2022. Her 10th studio album, Midnights, would be released on October 21st, 2022. Swift began her infamous Eras Tour on May 5th, 2023 where she announced that Speak Now (Taylor’s version) would be released on July 7th, 2023. The ‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) era’ was cut short with the announcement of 1989 (Taylor’s Version) on August 8th, 2023.

Now, Swifties are patiently waiting for October 27th, 2023 which is the release date for 1989 (Taylor’s Version).
