Prom Among the Stars

Prom+Among+the+Stars

Smoke Signals staff Sophia Axiotis and Nick Trautloff had the pleasure of attending Canyon High School’s “Prom Among the Stars.” Senior prom is an experience that is always bittersweet one. Prom has been heralded as the pinnacle of high school, and for many seniors, it is the last “hooray” before graduation. It’s a night where everyone can feel glamorous and have a break from grueling school work; a night where you can dance, laugh, and make
memories that you’ll cherish forever. The entrance to prom featured a
red carpet and as soon as guests walked through the entrance, there were many smiling faces of people experiencing a vital night of their life.
The venue was very interesting and colorful, but it still fit the theme of “Night Among the Stars.”  Anyone who has been to the Science Discovery Center in the past was bound to feel a great sense of nostalgia and childlike wonder, especially with the shopping simulator, where mini carts acted as guides through a grocery store scavenger hunt.  There were many other simulators which required less hands-on work, like the helicopter tour, which took its guest soaring over the wildlife of Orange County. But, the simulators most in line with the theme of the night were the Rocket Launch and the Space/ Mission Control Center.  Both of these took guests through the rigorous and thrilling activities that astronauts go through in their preparations for missions. The Rocket Launch put guests through the feeling of a Rocket preparing to launch into space, and the Mission Control Center showed just how intensely astrophysicists work, and how rewarding their job is.  Since Prom lasted from 7pm to 11pm, this venue was perfect for one to have a fun experience with the theme.

As the night was winding down to an end, Smoke Signals Interviewed Canyon High School Senior, Aly Alo.  Aly said that what she enjoyed most about the night was the shopping simulation. She said that “It was something different and wasn’t something you’d do at a normal prom.”  Like many seniors, she said that she felt bittersweet about the night, as it will be one of the last times that friends will get together before graduation day.
Prom was a night that many will look back on and remember for years to come.
