Canyon+vs.+Orange+Away+Game

September 6th, game four of the season at Fred Kelly: a pivotal game for Canyon High School. So far, Canyon is going 0-3 against some tough teams. Now, as they face Orange High School, they have a chance to turn the tide of their season and make the playoffs. Orange is a big team, both in numbers and in size of players. Canyon, however, is a speedier opponent. Alas, their speed couldn’t quite pull through in this game.

In the 1st quarter, kicker and wide receiver, Joseph “Joey” Rouly (Junior) ran two touchdowns and kicked 2 extra points for Canyon. Quarterback Vincent Hourigan (Junior) threw the first, and quarterback Brandon Hij (Senior) threw the second. At the end of 1st quarter, the score was 12-14 with Canyon in the lead.
In the 2nd quarter, Rouly scored another touchdown and extra point, wrapping up the 2nd quarter with a score of 21-18.
In the 3rd quarter, Rouly kicked a field goal, making the score 24-18. However, Orange pulled to an even tie of 24-24 with a touchdown.
In the final quarter, orange scored another 2 touchdowns and got the extra point, pulling Orange ahead with a score of 38-24.
“We started out strong, we had them in the first half… the lead felt really good. I feel like we can turn it around,” Student Matthew Cherney expressed about the game.

Marc Gennette, parent to running back Hunter Gennette, had this to say: “The teamed missed an opportunity to gain a victory. But, from a talent level, Canyon should be successful at the rest of their games.”

Overall, Canyon played hard this game. Star player of the night, Joseph Rouly, completely agreed, saying, “Me and my brothers have been grinding out here. We’ve been working our butts off. We just need to keep working hard.”

Everyone seems to be in agreement that Canyon could have done better this game. But, there is also a hope that exudes from the team and its fans that the season will turn around and our Canyon Comanches will make it to the playoffs.
